One of our intrepid readers asked me if the green drake hatch had started yet on Back Lake. My reply was “no”, but we think that our Brown Drake started this week – many of these critters have been on the windows at the lodge lately, so it’s time to break out the dries for the lake.

Another customer that showed up on the outside wall of the lodge this evening was what appears to be a cream cahill, smaller than the brown drake, and much lighter in color, but I only saw one of them, so maybe it’s just the beginning for the cahills.

Last night and today were pretty nice up here, but we are expecting to get some more unsettled weather later this week, so there will definitely be no shortage of water again. The river is slowly coming down to wading levels again, though south of Murphy Dam is still somewhat swift. Perfect for …. you guessed it: a switchrod!

On the positive side, the outer brook trout ponds remain steady, and we’re definitely nearing the commencement of the hex hatch on Back Lake.

Our Hope On The Rise women will be joining us this weekend, so we’re all excited for that.

We’ll keep you posted as the reports roll in.
