That’s guest Mike Fitzgerald with a morbidly obese brookie (5 ¼ lbs) from Back Lake on Friday, before the really bad stuff came in Friday night and yesterday. Things are getting a little better today, but it’s still cold and there’s a possibility of snow tonight when the temp dips to 23 degrees. Serious.

Back Lake continued to fish very well this weekend, despite the adverse conditions (5.5″ of rain this week, and even a little snow last night) , and there was reportedly quite a bit of activity at Round Pond Friday and Saturday as well.  Most of the ponds and lakes should be good right now – lots of fresh water bringing along morsels to feed on, and all of this weather has kept the water temperatures nice and cool.

The bad news is on the Connecticut River, which is raging to say the least. Flows out of Second Lake Dam (900 CFS) and Murphy Dam (1800 CFS) have been bumped up to accommodate all of the extra water, but First Lake Dam remains at 144 CFS.  The other shoe’s going to drop at some point, so expect some increased flow in this section when we finally have some good weather come our way.  Needless to say, catching a fish out of the Connecticut River won’t be in the forecast until the flows drop significantly.

Good news is that we’ll have 65 degrees and sunny on Tuesday …
