Who needs to go on a “fishing destination” trip anyway? We have some excellent trout and salmon fishing right here in northern N.H., and sometimes a beautiful rainbow trout is all that’s needed to remember just how great it can be.
The river is slowly coming down, but was still the shade of “regular medium” Dunkin Donuts coffee as of this afternoon. With good weather the next two days, it should be fine for drifting by Saturday at the latest. Fishing below the dams here in Pittsburg is still the best option – stay above tributary junctions for the next day or so and you should do well.
Back Lake, though still quite warm, has been producing some good rainbows this week on small spinners, Hornbergs and the Golden Demon for some of our guests. In fact, the lake was boiling with rises this evening, though some of those were undoubtedly our resident “Back Lake greenback” population (trans. smallmouth bass).
Those same guests have also been fishing some of the Connecticut Lakes (Third Lake and Lake Francis), with varying results. While they can spot the fish on their fish finders, they haven’t been easy to get. At least it’s good to know that the fish are there and that you’re not totally wasting your time!
A cool down is predicted for early next week – nights in the upper 30s – so that should have a positive effect on the fishing on our lake and others in the area. Give us a call at 1-800-835-6343 if you can make it back – only 38 days left in the season …
