Fly Fishing NH's Connecticut Lakes Region

Back Lake Fishing Report: 5/30

Let’s just say that while these guys (Monty on the left, Rudy on the right) find a lot of birds during hunting season, they’re not so good at locating trout. They also don’t handle a net very well, but they’re still a good time on the boat.

Back Lake is pretty hot right now, and trolling has been the best method lately. Woodduck Herons (Orange and Red) have been working like a charm, on the rainbows in particular. Sink tip line or mono with a little weight will get the fly to the proper presentation for the fish right now. Surface temp of the lake the other night was 62 degrees, which is probably a little high for this time of year, but it’s still very good for working trout. The big question now is whether our hex hatch will come off earlier this year? We should know in about two weeks, and if you like casting big flies to hungry trout, you’ll like the hex hatch. You know you want to …

Lake Francis Inlet has continued it’s hot fishing in the past week. Trout and salmon are near the top early in the morning then gradually drop down deeper as the day goes on. Fly casting in the evening has also been good over there. Round Pond and Coon Brook Bog were also good fishing over the weekend, so there are definitely some brookies playing the game in town. We have boats on quite a few of the outer ponds for our guests (gratis),  so check with us at the front desk if you want to switch it up a bit when you’re up here.

We have a few openings this coming weekend, so give us a call at 1-800-835-6343 and we’ll hook you up!
