Fly Fishing NH's Connecticut Lakes Region

Connecticut River Fishing Report: 5/25

Weather’s remained basically beautiful all week, and the fishing has been pretty good in places. Guest Warren Phillips went out with our man Jon Howe for a morning of fishing the Lake Francis Inlet from a drift boat and he did pretty well – three salmon landed. This is the best way to fish the Inlet (from a drift boat or other watercraft) , as Lake Francis is full to the brim these days.

Back Lake continues to produce some lunker brook trout (bright lures and flies have been best), and a couple of our fishermen also hit Round Pond this week with some success. When you fish the ponds right now (many of which are doing well), think basic patterns – Adams, Hornbergs, Mickey Finn, Golden Demon. Put a little action in to it, and you’ll probably have a brookie on in short order.

The Trophy Stretch remains surprisingly slow so far, so we’ll keep you posted at the first signs of aquatic life there. The Magalloway Stretch seems to be slowing down, as the river flow has dropped a bit from earlier this week, but it still might be worth checking out to see if there is a stray salmon or two there before they drop back to the lake.

We have some openings this coming week, so give us a call at 1-800-835-6343 if you can take a break away from your hectic schedule – we’d love to have you here!
