Round Pond has the potential to give up some big brookies, but Allen Marshall brought in a big tire when he was up there earlier this week. Nice job cleaning up our local waters Allen – remember to pick up anything you might see on the waters you fish that doesn’t belong there. It makes you feel good and is just a good thing to get in the habit of doing!

Our weather hasn’t cooperated too much since our last update – a low pressure system bringing wind and rain has stalled over our area and will continue to hang out for the weekend. Sounds like clearing is on the way for Monday, but it will make hex hatch fishing tough the next couple of nights. We’re still not at “peak” yet, so there’s still some time before that happens next week presumably.  Wednesday was the last night I was out there, and it was pretty good with some beautiful rainbows making it to the net that night. Keep checking the weather – if you see a clear, calm patch of weather coming, get up here, fast.

The Connecticut River, on the Trophy and south of Pittsburg, is unfazed by the weather. Fishing has been very good, with trout taking an assortment of nymphs, soft hackle wets and dries (cahills, elk hair caddis). Pat’s Rubber Legs (imported from Denver, CO) even worked for me on a drift down near Colebrook, so you know that the fishing’s good. River flows remain low and constant, so the fish seem to be pretty comfortable right now.
