The “Hex Meter” is at about a 5 after last night.

Some hexes coming off, but definitely not as hot as we like to see. Don’t worry, it’ll get there over the next week. There were quite a few of us out there (it looked like a used boat yard out on the lake) last night, and while each boat had action, they definitely weren’t jumping in the boat.

The Sexy Hex and Woodduck Heron flies were what worked for me, but I think anything big and hairy would have been a good pattern. Remember, big leaders and tippets are needed for casting big flies – it stinks when you have flawless form only to watch your leader and fly end up in a pile, ten feet short of their destination. Such are the travails of us fly fisher people!

On another note, it was a beautiful night to be out on the lake nonetheless …
