Fly Fishing NH's Connecticut Lakes Region

Month: June 2011

It’s a brookie, believe me …

Looks like some kind of tiger trout hybrid, but it was actually a Back Lake brook trout, caught yesterday by John Wakefield. The pic was probably taken a little while after he caught it, so that’s why the mysterious “stripes” showed up.

Back Lake Hex Report: 6/24

Round Pond has the potential to give up some big brookies, but Allen Marshall brought in a big tire when he was up there earlier this week. Nice job cleaning up our local waters Allen – remember to pick up anything you might see on the waters you fish that doesn’t belong there. It makes you feel good and is just a good thing to get in the habit of doing!

Back Lake Hex Report: 6/21

The “Hex Meter” is at about a 5 after last night.

Some hexes coming off, but definitely not as hot as we like to see. Don’t worry, it’ll get there over the next week. There were quite a few of us out there (it looked like a used boat yard out on the lake) last night, and while each boat had action, they definitely weren’t jumping in the boat.

Back Lake Hex Report: 6/19

It may be hard to tell from the picture, but the Tall Timber fleet was at it tonight finally, after yesterday evening’s gusty winds kept nearly everyone off the lake. The lake surface was a little calmer tonight, allowing for some close encounters of the hexagenia kind.

Happy Father’s Day everyone!

We have many grandfather, father and son teams at the lodge this weekend. It’s great to see the fishing tradition being passed down through the generations just like it was in our family. Thanks Dad!
