Getting out for some fishing on the Connecticut River is always refreshing, no matter if it’s in June or February, and yesterday’s weather presented another chance to dip wadered feet in 34 degree flowing water once again.
First day out there for the 2013 Connecticut River fishing season (it has been too darn cold so far!) and it was worth it. Lots of water, lots of dead smelt on the shoreline, and even a curious brown trout made the first outing complete.

There were lots of folks up this past weekend getting in their last few days of fishing before the close of the season. The big lakes, Lake Francis and all three Connecticut Lakes are now officially closed but Back Lake, the rivers and streams and the outer ponds are still open until the 15th.
