Fly Fishing NH's Connecticut Lakes Region

Connecticut River Fishing Report: 2/15

Getting out for some fishing on the Connecticut River is always refreshing, no matter if it’s in June  or February, and yesterday’s weather presented another chance to dip wadered feet in 34 degree flowing water once again.

Temperature peaked yesterday in the upper 30’s, so it was time to get the rod out again to see if any trout were active. The water’s still mighty cold out there, so they’re still holding in the soft water, primarily on the inside seams of pools, but the fishing was a bit slow yesterday.  A few fish were coming up to snatch smelt off the top, and there were even a few BWO’s coming off amidst the snowflakes.  Jon had a couple of close calls with trout coming up for his smelt imitation, but it was to no avail – we’ll try to get at ’em another day.

It was really quite relaxing, even with the bone chilling water temp – we lasted nearly an hour and a half before retiring to vehicular warmth.

March and warmer temperatures are on the horizon now, so keep an eye out for a window of good weather and give us a call if you want to try some winter / spring fishing on the Connecticut. 1-800-835-6343

Until then, stay warm!
