Fly Fishing NH's Connecticut Lakes Region

Summer Days …

Some beautiful weather lately to pursue trout and salmon on the Connecticut River in Pittsburg NH, though we are due to get some rainy weather moving through this week. Should help keep the lake levels high and the water flowing out of the dams.

The river has remained busy, as we expect it to be during the summer months. Still plenty of fish on the make however, so they have not seemingly been affected much by the angler traffic.

Patterns continue to be much the same as they were before, with beadhead nymphs up front (Prince, PT, Caddis Pupa, Copper John, etc.) followed up by a soft hackle wet trailer. However, I have heard of people following that beadhead with midge patterns, and certainly keep in mind throwing a  Goomie or San Juan Worm as your trail fly. They always work pretty well too.

Dries have been working as well for some folks too – Yellow Stimulators (all sizes) and other yellow colored patterns (Yellow Sally, Sulphurs, etc.) were hot yesterday. But, you know how that goes … could be yellow today and it will be olive tomorrow. Those trout and salmon can be fickle at times.

Flows remain steady at First Connecticut Lake Dam (143 CFS) and Murphy Dam at Lake Francis (301 CFS), but the river flow has risen to 313 CFS out of Second Connecticut Lake Dam, with a possibility of going higher if we get all of the rain that is predicted for this week.

We shall see what happens with our weather and remember to wade safely out there everybody!
