Fly Fishing NH's Connecticut Lakes Region

Be Prepared …

That’s what the Boys Scouts used to say once upon a time, and it is no different if you’re fishing Back Lake’s “Hex Hatch” either. Fortunately, we have our Back Lake Fly Selection fly box to help you out in case you weren’t a Boy Scout.

The fly box comes with a selection of hex patterns , in all stages of development, to help you go after our rainbow, brook and brown trout, no matter what they’re feeding on.

We sell them here in our fly shop ($29.95), and the only other things you’ll need is a flashlight (if you stay out late), some Ben Gay for your casting shoulder, and a steady temperament to keep your wits as trout are crashing the surface around your offering.

The Woodduck Heron pattern is best used as an emerger, slowly stripped in at the beginning of the night’s festivities.

Switching over to a cripple or dun pattern when the action gets hot is the most fun of all, and all of the patterns have a good chance of working, depending on the mood of the fish.

It is fishing after all!

It won’t be long now …
