Fly Fishing NH's Connecticut Lakes Region

Upper Connecticut River Fishing Report: 7/30

The weather has thankfully moderated over the last few weeks, meaning good things for fish and fishermen on the Connecticut River in Pittsburg, NH. Flows are stable and the sections of the river below the dams on the Connecticut Lakes are easy for wading at the moment.

There appears to be a good amount of trout and salmon doing their thing in the river with the water temps anywhere from the low 50’s (below Murphy) to low 60’s (ten miles downstream from Pittsburg), so the fish are active and energetic right now.

The area with the most action seems to be the Trophy Stretch between First Connecticut Lake and Lake Francis, though any of the usual patterns have been working on the various stretches of the CT:

CDC Caddis, Elk Hair Caddis and Klinkhammers have been good for dries, while tandem nymph rigs featuring a weighted nymph up front (BH Prince, BH Pheasant Tail, BH Stones) with a soft hackle dropper have been producing as well. Don’t forget the San Juan Worm, Goomie Worm, or myriad of Egg patterns for that dropper too – they usually prove irresistible to the fish when presented properly.

If you’re in to swinging some streamers, Woolybuggers of all colors, Muddlers, and Soft Hackle Streamers have been enticing trout lately too.

ONLY TWO  AND A HALF MONTHS LEFT OF FISHING SEASON, FOLKS !!!
