Fly Fishing NH's Connecticut Lakes Region

Happy Fishing New Year !

How does a semi-retired fishing guide spend his time in the depths of winter in New Hampshire’s north country? You’re looking at it – enjoying the Tavern at the Rainbow Grille and one of Tanya’s golden hued concoctions.

Tomorrow may be the opening day for fishing on the Connecticut River, but it really feels like we may be in the Arctic the way this winter has come roaring in.  Two feet of snow (at least) by the river’s edge would make just getting to the river a challenge, never mind the temperature topping out at 15 degrees day after day. Pretty tough to shoot line when it’s frozen to your guides …

The flow is good right now – 500 CFS out of Murphy Dam – but I’ll watch the weather before getting out there myself.  You’ll be the first to know when I do!

Happy New Year everybody – hope to see you up here enjoying our trout and salmon in 2013!
