Fly Fishing NH's Connecticut Lakes Region

Connecticut Lakes Region Fishing Report: 5/7

Springtime’s glory is here and everything that goes with it – translation: a multitude of fishing opportunities in Pittsburg. In short, not only is the Connecticut River very fishable right now, but the Connecticut Lakes, Back Lake, and a number of the brook trout ponds are all fishing well right now.

There’s some salmon running up the Connecticut from First Connecticut Lake right now, and this week’s rainy weather should bring more fish in to the inlet, and the water level at Lake Francis Inlet (near the Campground) is very good right now as well. If you like to troll the lakes, Lake Francis, First Connecticut Lake and Back Lake have all been good fishing over the past week. Water temps are ideal right now for trout and salmon (high 40s and low 50s) on the lakes.

Some of the logging road gates were opened last weekend, with more to open this coming weekend, meaning that the outer fly fishing ponds are available for fishing. This is one of the earliest the gates have ever been opened, and there’s been good reports from Middle Pond, Moose Pond and Coon Brook Bog so far. We’ll be checking our outer pond boats soon to see how they wintered, so they should be available for our guests this weekend in most cases.

Check out the N.H. Fish & Game Stocking Report to see what water bodies have been taken care of so far this season and stop in at the Lodge if you venture north this weekend. The Rainbow Grille & Tavern also opens this Thursday, so you can come by to satisfy your hunger and slake your thirst after a great day of fishing. We have openings this weekend at the Lodge too, so give us a call at 1-800-835-6343 – we’d love to see you this weekend!
