Fly Fishing NH's Connecticut Lakes Region

Sunny Summer Days Mean …

trout (sometimes big trout) striking wayward tasty morsels that look like ants, cicadas, or just about any other terrestrial pattern that you can find.  Just make certain that you don’t leave the house without your hoppers: (l to r) Parachute Hopper Yellow, Morish’s Gold Hopper, Joe’s Hopper.

Terrestrial fishing is similar to streamer fishing, except it’s all on top, so you get to see the action. This can be some of the most exciting fishing on the Connecticut River, especially while on drifts down the big parts of the river, south of Canaan. Just tie one on, bop or skitter it across the water, and watch out. As usual, Tall Timber can satisfy your terrestrial needs if you’re in the area – just stop by and we’ll hook you up.

Ants are a great late summer pattern: (l to r) Parachute Cinnamon Flying Ant, Cinnamon Flying Ant, Black Flying Ant

Here’s a few of our recommendations, with those in bold being particularly useful:

Ants: Parachute Cinnamon Flying Ant, Cinnamon Flying Ant, Black Flying Ant, Para Rust Flying Ant, Foam Flying Ant, Hot Spot Black Ant

Grasshoppers: Parachute Hopper Yellow or Tan, Dave’s Hopper Yellow, Joe’s Hopper,  Morish’s Gold Hopper

Arachnids: Turk’s Tarantula Tan, Orange or Black,  Spider, River Spider, Fat Albert

Others: Cicada, Flat Head Cicada, Dave’s Cricket

Try them when you’re out next time – it could be a lot of fun!
