Looks like summer is here, at long last. Temps have risen, and the fishing has followed suit. Back Lake has continued to produce well, as has the Trophy Stretch.

Here’s the synopsis:

Back Lake: Hexes are still coming off in the evening, though not at the rate that they were a week ago, yet the trout and bass are still working in the evening.  Things may be winding down with the hex hatch, but the heron fly is still good, whether trolling or casting. According to some of our guests this week, fishing the morning spinner fall has been worth it too, justifying a 5 A.M. wake up. In other words, get up … get out there!!

Connecticut River: The Trophy Stretch is holding steady at 150 CFS, great for wading and feeding trout and salmon. Lots of rainbows, salmon and brookies, with the occasional brownie sprinkled in. Caddis patterns on top and nymph/emerger combinations of all kinds down low have been doing the trick lately, so there’s lots of possiblities right now. I even used a pattern that I brought back from Montana the other day, a Purple Lightning Bug, that quickly caught a nice rainbow – it’s good fishing on the Trophy right now …

South of Pittsburg, flows remain steady when we haven’t had a deluge from a thunderstorm. The forecast through the weekend looks good, so everything south of us should be very fishable in the foreseeable future.

Reports on the Androscoggin River have been good too – the alder fly hatch may be winding down soon though.

See you on the water!
