Beautiful weather is on the way for this weekend, folks, which means more good things for us that throw flies around. Overall, we’ve had some unsettled weather this summer and the corresponding rises and drops in barometric pressure can affect the fish, which, in turn, affects us greatly.  We like happy trout and salmon …

River flows remain good and constant: 150 CFS in the Trophy Stretch and around 400 CFS south of town – wadeable and very fishable, but still exercise caution when you’re out there. There’s been some nice salmon brought to bay the last couple of weeks (18″-20″), along with some nice rainbows and brookies too. Nymphing probably remains the method of choice if you want to catch a lot of fish on the river, with beadheads trailed by soft hackle emergers as the specific flies to achieve success.

Worms (left to right): San Juan, Dazzle Eye, Goomie

However, don’t forget the WORM – the San Juan Worm is always a great fly up here, and Cindy has a couple more variations in stock that look pretty good too – the Dazzle Eye Worm, and the Goomie Worm (she’s done real well with this one out west and thought it would be a good one to try here). Perhaps it’s the colors, maybe it’s the way they move through the water, but all fish gobble up worms, real or not.

This is all heresy to the D.F.O. crowd, but it’s reality for us that want to feel the tug on the line as often as humanly possible.
