Al Guerrera of the Kachician party caught this mammoth brook trout on the lake a few days ago. The exact measurements were 5.25 lbs., 18 ” length, 18″ girth – yes, shaped like a little mini-keg. This group’s been with us a long time and were delighted by the fishing on Back Lake that day. A black and silver colored Rapala brought this obese beast to bay, along with the others in the picture below.
Logging roads to some of the ponds are open now, and we have boats currently at Round Pond, Coon Brook Bog, Big Brook Bog, East Inlet, and Scott Bog. A truck is a good idea if you’re going in to Coon Brook Bog, but the roads are decent getting in to the others. Middle Pond continues to be good fishing, as well as Clarksville Pond and Little Diamond Pond. Indian Stream Road and Perry Stream Road are still closed and may be no man’s land for a long time to come.
The rain has fallen hard here the last two nights, so the river is high and on the wild side – more on that to come …
