Well, we survived yesterday’s events. The less said the better on that …
Lots of reports today, from all over Pittsburg, with most on the good side. You know what the saying is: “A bad day of fishing is better than a good day at work”, and we’ve been testing that theory lately. The weather was good today, so maybe that made a difference. We’ll hope there’s more good weather on the way.
So there were a couple areas where the reports were better:
1. Lake Francis Inlet. OMR and the Bride took out Gary Cox today in the drift boat up the inlet. There’s so much water in Lake Francis right now that boats are definitely the preferred method to fish this area. Nymphs (beadheads trailed by soft hackles and hatching pupas) were what most salmon and rainbows were taken on, with Gary landing 5-6 of each. Gary was the fish hog of the boat, as Cindy was tiring of watching Jon net his fish continually throughout the afternoon. If you’re coming up here this weekend, remember to hit the inlets for some great action.
2. Magalloway Stretch. The salmon fishing was great today here, and it seems that all methods were working at one point or another. Streamers and nymphs were working early on in the day, and then BWOs were doing the trick later on for an hour or so. The highlight of Quentin’s day was landing an acrobatic 18″ salmon on top – that would be my highlight too!
The rivers continue to slowly come down, but nothing really to report yet on the Trophy Stretch. There should be a stocking truck or two in town this week, so we’re hopeful for some good action on the good ole Trophy this week. Whatever happens, we’ll keep you updated on what’s going on, and our fly shop can supply you with what you need. Stop in sometime …
