Believe it or not, our area has actually escaped the wrath of the rain god over the last few days and we’ve been spared further rising waters in our local rivers. While the Magalloway stretch is running at a nice flow currently (352 CFS as of today), the other stretches are still running on the high side. The Trophy Stretch is ripping along at 512 CFS and south of Murphy Dam the Connecticut flows at 773 CFS – that’s a lot of water, so bring along your supply of split shot and cement blocks if you fish either of these sections. Remember … “slow and low …”

Perhaps the best plan of attack is to fish inlets to the lakes, where the trout and salmon are waiting for their smorgasbord to come to them. Lake Francis Inlet, Bog Branch Inlet and Deadwater Inlet on Lake Francis are all good areas to try, especially from a boat, canoe or kayak. I hit Deadwater Inlet in my kayak last night, and there were actually quite a few rising fish there. All of the fish boated succumbed to a Bloom’s soft hackle (I think any soft hackle would’ve worked) trailing a parachute Adams, while from recent reports from some of our guides, streamers on sinking lines and nymphs have done especially well at Lake Francis Inlet. Who knows? As with life, fishing remains a mystery to me …

Back Lake continues to produce well, and Middle Pond and Little Diamond Pond have had glowing reports over the last few days. There are options out there for the intrepid fisherman – you just have to go investigate them (or ask us at the Lodge!).
