Trip Planning 101: Get a Guide

The last two days in northern New Hampshire have been abnormally warm for this time of the year. “Winter isn’t like it used to be” is a common phrase lately among the locals, especially when we’re in the midst of yet another thaw. Weather like this rarely happened in Februarys past, but it seems to occur more often than we want to admit, particularly if you’re a winter sports enthusiast.

Of course, when the weather gets like this, I can’t help but think of the fishing season that is on the horizon, getting out for winter river excursions when conditions permit (one long distance release for me on Monday …) and making preparations for what is to come. If you’re a reader of this blog, you’re probably doing the same thing when the weather turns mild on a winter day. Spring’s literally just around the corner, so it’s time to start planning your next fishing trip to the upper Connecticut River.

Nick Proulx (r) of Northern Water Guide Service

To this end, guests of Tall Timber and readers of the Fishing Blog are well advised to start planning now to book time with Mickey Cunliffe or Nick Proulx, our in house fly fishing guides. Always looking for new spots and fishy adventures, Mickey and Nick take guests out to explore and have a great time on the Connecticut River. They both bring plenty of youthful energy and experience to their clients, whether they are wading the various river stretches in Pittsburg, or floating the Connecticut River to the south of Pittsburg.

Both Mickey and Nick have a dedicated clientele, so it’s important to get on their schedules quickly if you’re looking to make the most of your trip to Pittsburg. If you’re unable to book either of them, we have a list of fishing guides in the “Outside Services” section of our Guide Services page on our website.

Check them out and book your guide trip soon, because time’s a wastin!
