It’s the last day of June and the hexagenia hatch on Back Lake is really just beginning. It’s 7 – 10 days later than normal this year due to our cold spring. The hatch was getting better on Friday night, but then we had a string of heavy thunderstorms move through the area late yesterday, causing most to abandon their evening plans.

Still looks unsettled for tonight, but perhaps there will be a window of decent weather later on when it counts. Tomorrow looks beautiful, so there’s bound to be plenty of us looking for those flying behemoths tomorrow night, and trying to find the trout chasing them.

We’re selling the Tall Timber selection of trout producing hex patterns for Back Lake in our little fly shop. They’re all there and have been carefully chosen for their ability to entice fish, in the right hands of course. Twelve big hex flies (emergers and duns) and a TTL fly box to keep them in for $36 – well worth the price if you ask me. Our box of hex flies should be good for a few nights of fishing, as long as your tippet is strong enough …

Boat Availability

For Tall Timber guests, availability of our fifteen foot fiberglass fishing boats ($50 for a full day rental, and $30 for a half day) isn’t a problem. For non-guests, availability is determined after all of our guests have been taken care of. During the week, getting a boat for the evening hatch usually isn’t a problem, but it can be challenging on weekends.

Give us a call (603-538-6651) in the afternoon to check on boat availability for the evening to come.
