Fly Fishing NH's Connecticut Lakes Region

Fresh fish!

Fresh Friday fish photo for you – a very healthy male salmon caught and released by guide Mickey Cunliffe this morning. Not sure where, but I have a suspicion where it could be …

River flows and temperatures in all stretches are getting in to the sweet spot for us anglers – should be good fishing going forward, especially after the P.A.A. stocking effort happens this Sunday in the Trophy Stretch.

Streamers and nymphs still seem to be doing most of the damage, but our dry fly action could be happening at any moment … in fact, it could be happening right now as I type this.

Streamer bite is a funny thing – try different flies, and different strip rates – don’t be afraid to change how you normally do things. Let it sink sometimes, and don’t rush it – things are better sometimes when they’re savored.

Nymphing always seems to be “slow and low”, but experimenting with your fly combinations might be the ticket to a good day of fishing and being in “Losersville”. Change your bobber height, and fool around with your weights, if you’re going that route. Don’t be a loser.

Hope you get out there to wet a line this weekend at some point …
