Fly Fishing NH's Connecticut Lakes Region

Upper Connecticut River Fishing Report: 6/10

June is the fisherman’s month on the Connecticut River in northern New Hampshire – not only are the water temperatures still nice and cold, but the insect hatches are really kicking in to high gear and the fish are in full feed bag mode.

This beautiful salmon finally took a dry after several attempts by Chuck DeGray of North Country Fly Shop. Way to go Chuck!

Lots of trout and salmon in the Trophy Stretch right now, as well as fishermen – it is fishing nirvana to be sure.

Even with the cold and rainy weather lately, the hatches have been robust. Just in one pool on the Trophy Stretch yesterday, we noticed BWO’s of all sizes, as well as small sulphurs, a few yellow sally style stones and some caddis too. It was a smorgasbord, and the trout and salmon were definitely dining heartily.

The fishing on the river south of Pittsburg has been picking up as well, as the river temp in Canaan, VT a few days ago was a perfect 52 degrees. While the numbers of fish in this section might not be to the level of the Trophy Stretch, the possibility of hooking in to a large fish is there.

chuck-hooked-upBe patient – enjoy your time on the water …

Speaking of that – please be courteous out there folks, there’s a lot of us that enjoy fishing the river at this time of year and there are a lot of pools and runs to fish. If the one you had your mind set on is taken, go upstream or downstream and discover some new water – you might be surprised at what you find.

We have some openings this week if you can get away from life – give us a call at 1-800-835-6343.

You know you want to …

Back Lake Update: Our cold weather has put the incredible Brown Drake hatch to bed for the time being – there were a few coming off last night, and our weather will turn colder again tomorrow for a couple of days. No Hexagenias yet, as they really come off when the weather is at its hottest – we’ll let you know as soon as something happens.
