Fly Fishing NH's Connecticut Lakes Region

The Brown Drake’s are Here!

That’s a brown drake that landed on a lodge window a few days ago, one of quite a few that were perched there. The brown drake hatch is a precursor to the Cahill  and yellow drake hatches on Back Lake, so it’s time to start getting ready for the hexagenias as well. We expect Mr. Hex to be here in a couple more weeks.

Our weather has been good this week, but more wind in the evening than we want for casting dries. Hopefully things settle down soon, but the weather report says that we have some showers moving through for a few days.

The fishing has been good for most anglers on the lake lately – some good sized rainbows, with some smaller browns and brook trout sprinkled in. Trolling is still the best bet, and then hope for an evening hatch.

Fly Suggestions for trolling: Golden Demon, Yellow Hornberg, Woolybuggers, Woodduck Heron

Fly Suggestions for casting: Woodduck Heron, Adams (big), Tan Sparrow, Carpenter Ant, Black Caddis, Black Flying Ant

Free Fishing Day in New Hampshire is this Saturday, June 4 – get out and enjoy it if you can, and take someone that doesn’t normally fish with you too!
