Fly Fishing NH's Connecticut Lakes Region

Back Lake Fishing Update: 5/8

Seems like the trout finally woke up on Back Lake this weekend, as some of our guests did very well on the resident brook trout by dragging a Winnipesaukee  Smelt (pictured above) on floating fly line around the lake.  We think that other streamers would work well too – the Golden Demon, Gray Ghost, Black Ghost and Mickey Finn are solid choices every spring on Back Lake.

While today was rainy, windy and chilly (actually snowy this afternoon), we have a much better weather forecast coming up later this week, so please give us a call (800-835-6343) if you’re looking to sneak away.

On the Connecticut River, it appears as though the spring salmon run has begun at the bridge on Magalloway Road and down at Lake Francis Inlet. Some sizable salmon have been caught over the past few days, and things should progress well over the next week or so.

While streamers and nymphs have been working best, the dry fly fishing could turn on with the warmer temps coming later this week.

Let’s hope so – spring has got to be coming soon, doesn’t it?

Finally, Happy Mother’s Day everybody!

Your mom lovingly put up with your love of fish and fishing in all probability, and she may have even been the person that got you started on the path of becoming an angler, so it’s time to pay tribute.

Thanks, Mom.
