What a great weekend we had for the first of many Hope On The Rise retreats here at Tall Timber. It was a high spirited group of women that came together to share some camaraderie, laughs, and fishing stories, of course.
Hope on the Rise works to create life experiences for women who have had a diagnosis of breast cancer. By teaching the art and “zen” of fly fishing, they help women find renewal and healing. Based in Vermont and New Hampshire, the next Hope On The Rise retreat will take place at the Lake Mansfield Trout Club in Stowe this September. The organization is in it’s first year of existence and is in need of support, whether that is monetary or manpower – please visit their website for more information on how you can help.
A blizzard of caddis covered the water and flew upstream all morning, making for quite a strong hatch for such a bright sunny day, and even better was that there were many eager trout “playing the game”, taking in the buffet of caddis all morning. Fortunately, several of this weekend’s participants were able to fool some brook trout with the excellent help of their River Guides and a few elk hair caddis.
Even for those that didn’t catch fish it was a great morning to be on the Connecticut River – sharing a perfect day on the water with new (and old) friends doesn’t get much better than that.
We look forward to hosting these inspirational women again next June!
