Fly Fishing NH's Connecticut Lakes Region

Back Lake Fishing Update: 5/19

What a beautiful stretch of weather for us at last – we have certainly earned it, and it looks like it will continue for a couple more days. Have I mentioned that the fishing’s been good on Back Lake too?

The fishing had been good the last couple of weekends on Back Lake, but NH Fish & Game placed a few more beauties in there yesterday (looks to be rainbows and brookies on the chunky side), so our guests did very well today. The Tall Timber fleet of green was out there in force today to be sure.

While there were some average fish, there were also several brood stock brook trout taken as well, ranging generally in the 2 – 3 lb. range. I’m sure there’s bigger ones in there too. Hardware mostly was what worked, but years of May fishing experience may also recommend yellow and orange colored flies – just my opinion.

The trout are here ... where are you?

The angling on the Connecticut Lakes has been good for our people too. The scoop on this is simple right now – anything bright in color, preferably yellow or orange (ditto for Back Lake). Lots of salmon and even lakers have been finding their way on to the end of our guests’ lines.

The Connecticut River has been a little slow, but this brilliant sunshine should warm the water, kick some aquatic insect life in to gear, and then you know what happens after that …

Tomorrow’s report will hopefully be a good one.
