Connecticut River Update: 9/10
Today was a beautiful early fall day up here – crisp & sunny – very similar to that day ten years ago. Reflect on it, or say a prayer if you’re so inclined, as long as you remember it in some way.

Fantastic day on the good ole Connecticut yesterday – summerlike temps, in the 70s and low 80s, with plenty of sunsplash. Not the best weather for dry fly action, but boy, does it feel good. These are the waning days of summer, and it’s nice getting a reminder of what is almost over.
Well, we’ve survived Irene so far, but this will make things challenging for anglers over the next week, to say the least. In conditions like this, the adage “slow and low” is most appropriate , as the fish are staying on the bottom, trying to avoid the faster currents. The fishing has been good lately, especially on the Trophy Stretch, for those that are willing to do what it takes to get to the fish. Remember, go to the fish, don’t wait for them to come to you …
Casting to rising fish, whether they’re trout or bass is always fun, and when the skies finally cleared after two days of rain, the lake beckoned for another try. Pretty calm on the lake last night, so there were rises to be seen, though sporadic at times.
Sorry it’s been so long between updates, friends. That’s what happens when the golf game starts taking precedence over taming trout.
On a drift from Canaan, VT to Colebrook, NH with OMR and his Bride yesterday, I asserted my dominance over yet another fin-bearing species of the northeast.
