Our sixteenth annual Beginners Fly Fishing School, taught by Angus Boezeman and Alan Erdossy of Broadside International, kicked off this weekend, with many grasshoppers trying to learn the ways of fly fishing.  The picture above shows the instructors netting insects to determine what the fish might be feeding on – it must’ve paid off, as one of the students landed a nice salmon on a golden stone nymph, based on the evidence that came up in the net – knowledge is power !

Our Intermediate Fly Fishing School will be the weekend of July 8 to 10, so give us a call if you want to take your fishing skills to the next level.

June 4: The Magalloway Stretch

I can tell you that they got lucky with the weather, pure and simple, with the wonderful weather today after a couple of cold and windy days.  A couple nights ago on the Trophy Stretch I thought I saw …  no, it couldn’t be ! A snowflake ??? Hopefully it was just a hallucination.

N.H. Fish & Game did it’s part last week in stocking the Trophy Stretch (brookies and rainbows mostly, but there’s also been browns and salmon coming up from Lake Francis as well), and we’re starting to have some good caddis (think small and dark) and mayfly (hendricksons, though our sulphurs and cahills should be just around the corner) activity too.

The Trophy Stretch still is flowing at 300 CFS, but the fish are there – hit the soft water on the sides of the faster current, and that’s where they should be. Streamers are still working really well, along with an assortment of beadheads and soft hackle trailers. A decrease in flow should improve your chances when fishing on the surface.

Get up here – it’s getting good …
