Snowing for the last day and a half here, with last week’s July weather that we had just a distant memory. Back Lake has soft, slushy edges right now, with a slightly firmer middle, but it shouldn’t be too long now.The recent cool down (20s and 30s during the day, and ridiculously chilly at night) has meant that we’ve been taking care of mundane indoor work, you know the kind of stuff that should really get done before taking off on a vacation. So, not much time spent in waders lately.

Maple sugaring isn’t the only thing this weather is great for – it’s great for the fisherman’s soul too. Yesterday felt like it could have been any day in May or June, with all of the brilliant sunshine and warm temperatures, and there were a few trout out there willing to play the game.

Fishing goes on unabated up here, when the weather permits … The weather was great a couple of days ago – mid 50s, with some sun in the morning, then becoming quite cloudy in the afternoon – perfect weather for wading the water for some spring fishing.
