Fishing Blast From the Past: The “Hermenator”

The Connecticut River opens for fishing activity a mere 18 days from now, and this, of course, leads us to think of warmer, sunnier times from seasons past when we pursued our fishy friends. We received this excellent picture of  Ed “Deadly Edly” Hermenau from Denis Fay the other day, showing Ed with a big cutthroat that he caught and released on Montana’s Slough Creek in July of 2012.

At Least Somebody’s Fishing

There is fishing going on somewhere … unfortunately, it was all the way over in Montana. The Bride took pictures of her man OMR from their trip to the Missouri River (the Mighty Mo) in October. Having returned, they are just like the rest of us – longing for a salmon run, the hex hatch, or even a, yes I said it, a bass to strike!

Back from Montana…

OMR and I just returned from another fantastic trip from Big Sky Country. We had a blast as usual fishing the Missouri, and landing a boat load of big rainbows thanks to our guide Ben Hardy. Jon’s always begging to have his picture taken but I had to put a stop to it since  it was interrupting my fishing time.

We had two fantastic days with Ben. Supposedly the MO wasn’t fishing well but we proved that wrong, and at times with doubles on. On our second day, I really did well, and I actually heard Ben tell OMR, ” She’s kicking your ass, man”. Ya baby!! If you haven’t experienced Montana yet, I suggest you head out to Craig, MT for some of the best trout fishing of your life, as well as some pretty incredible scenery.

We’re Back!

OMR and I just returned from another fantastic trip in Montana. The weather was great and the trout cooperated most of the time. We did a couple of drifts on the MO, a day on the Yellowstone and a day on Depuy’s Spring Creek. If you’ve ever contemplated heading West for some really incredible fly fishing, you should checkout our cabin on the Missouri River. It sits right on the river and the views, wildlife and fishing can’t be beat.

But now it’s time to hit the Connecticut River. We’ve heard the salmon are in the inlets and we can’t wait to get out there. It’s beautiful here today, 55 degrees, sunny and some wind. Saturday is calling for sun but Sunday overcast and maybe some rain.  Sounds like good BWO weather to me. See you on the river.
