Yes, the “greatest collection of fly fishing talent in northern New Hampshire”, the Pittsburg Anglers Association, held their annual meeting last week in preparation for the upcoming trout fishing season on the upper Connecticut River. As usual, discussions about the May stocking plan took place, as well as a few other exciting developments for the organization.
It was decided that the P.A.A. will stock the traditional amount of 550 – 600 trout in the Connecticut River’s “Trophy Stretch” again this May to help augment trout and salmon that are already in this incredibly beautiful piece of water. There’s just nothing like getting your season off on the right foot by laying in to a strong springtime trout or salmon, and that’s where the P.A.A. comes in.
Trout aren’t cheap though, so the P.A.A. is always looking for donations to help purchase the fish that will help put a tug at the end of angler’s lines. Much needed donations from local businesses and guides, as well as anglers that visit our area are what determine our level of stocking each year. In order to supplement the fall fishing, the organization also decided to undertake a stocking at some point in late summer / early fall, which will be the first such stocking that the P.A.A. has done.
The P.A.A. isn’t just about improving angler’s chances of success, however. They will also be donating to NH Trout Unlimited’s “Kids Camp” program, which is annually held in Pittsburg, with the Trophy Stretch as the classroom. It’s a wonderfully immersive week of fly fishing on the river, and undoubtedly it has been a critical part in the development of many young anglers over the years. The P.A.A. will also be supporting the NH Fish & Game Department in any projects where enhancement of the river and catch and release opportunities might be possible. More news on that as it becomes available …
If you already donate to the Pittsburg Anglers Association, a heartfelt “thank you” from all of us at the P.A.A., and to those of you that haven’t yet donated, please consider it and we really appreciate your support of the P.A.A.!
Tight lines!

Hi John – thanks for your interest in the Pittsburg Anglers. We did a “socially distanced” stocking last year with very few people there helping out, which is what we might do again, we’re really not sure. We will be reaching out to let everyone know as the date gets closer however. Stay tuned …

Usually the T.U. Kids Camp is held in late June, but you will have to contact NH T.U. to see exactly what their plans are for this year.
