Pretty darn cold outside in Pittsburg, NH lately – and it’s technically still “autumn”, as the winter solstice doesn’t come for another five days. Are there yaks in northern NH? Probably not, but it’s too frigid to go outside and check.
The mighty Connecticut River actually opens for fishing in merely sixteen days from now, but it’s hard to believe that one would stand in it right now, especially with all of the ice currently on it. Well below zero tonight, and it’s not bikini weather during daylight hours either.
My fly line doesn’t go out too far when it’s this cold (actually, it rarely goes out the way I want in the summer time either).
What does a wistful fisherman or woman do when the weather’s like this? You look for funny fishing-related stuff on the internet, and there’s a lot of it out there for sure.
Check out this well done video on the complexities of finding an appropriate fishing “partner”:

Tom, I think you have too much time on your hands this time of year. Maybe you should take up winter golf. Drill some holes out on the lake and they can double for ice fishing.

When it’s -25 in the morning up here, I need to dream a little bit about fishing Ken!
Besides, my golf game still stinks and ice fishing is illegal on Back Lake …

Based on John’s weather forecasts through next weekend, I think we’ll be using snowshoes instead of flyrods. Happy New Year.
