Looks like spring is here to stay – it finally feels like fishing weather, and we now have plenty of insect life to keep the trout busy. The grip-n-grin pic is of a beautiful Connecticut River ‘bow from this week. Thank you to Chuck DeGray of North Country Fly Shop for the photo.

The main hatches are still BWO’s (the upcoming stretch of weather will be perfect for them, as we’ll have unsettled weather all week), and there are good reports of caddis downstream of Pittsburg as well.

Make sure you have plenty of each if you’re venturing north for the holiday weekend, but if you forget ’em, we got ’em …

River flows in all sections of the Connecticut River remain steady – 85 CFS at Second Lake Dam, 150 CFS at First Lake Dam, and 300 CFS out of Murphy Dam.

Good wading levels for sure.

As far as the fishing goes, nymphs are probably still your best bet for action, but we should be on the cusp of some decent dry fly action as well.

The happy angler with the brown trout was another client of Chuck DeGray’s from yesterday. They specifically targeted big fish on the Connecticut River, and while the brown in the picture was not big (14″), they were successful in moving a couple of big trout yesterday.

They’re in there somewhere …
