That’s Angus Boezeman, Tall Timber’s Head Fishing Guide, with his happy client, Andrew Upton, and a beauty of a Connecticut River rainbow.

This fish capped off a day in which he caught and released five landlocked salmon with Angus and his dad Matt. This rainbow trout also prowls the depths of the river once again …

Magalloway Stretch – currently flows at 370 CFS as of today, and is lowering a little each day. Streamers and nymphs have been working the best on the landlocked salmon, for brief periods of activity. It is “salmon fishing” after all!

Smelt patterns like the Grey Ghost, Putts’ Favorite, 9-3, and Gray Soft Hackled Streamer have been the best. Fish them on a sinking line or leader of some sort and that will be your best chance. Some hatches just starting now, so maybe there will be more top water action this week. Water temperature as of yesterday morning was 48 degrees in this stretch. Much like their larger cousins, the Atlantic Salmon, these fish are making anglers work to be successful.

Trophy Stretch – currently flowing at 155 CFS, a very normal level for any time of year. This flow should remain steady going forward. Easy wading and it has received some stocking recently, with more stocking to take place this week, so expect some consistent action in there for the holiday weekend. While nymphs are probably the best option to explore the pools and pocket water, we could have some dry fly action if the water warms a bit – it was in the low 40s there yesterday.

Androscoggin River – OMR recently drifted the Andro and had a good day with his clients. The “Professor” was primarily nymphing for his fish – Copper Johns, BH Pheasant Tail and the Little Green Machine were working last Friday. However, since then, the river flow has dropped considerably and it may be difficult to get a drift boat through there until the flow comes up.

Stop by Tall Timber Lodge if you need any flies and possibly some inspiration too. We can also set you up with some piping hot java to get you going too …
