CT River Mayfly
& Caddis Hatches

April and May: Our fishing season begins with Ice-Out on the lakes and ponds between late April and mid-May, providing some of the best fishing of the season. Also at this time, the landlocked salmon enter the upper Connecticut River for the spring smelt run.

June and July: The dry fly fishing hits its peak by mid-June and continues into July. The major caddis, stonefly and mayfly hatches occur at this time.

August:
Back Lake browns are in the spring holes keeping cool. Dredging the bottom with nymphs or spin fishing with a favorite lure will bring success. The bass fishing on Back Lake is at its height right now.

September and October:
Pittsburg's foliage is at its peak, and the browns and brookies are in their spawning colors. Grouse hunting opens October 1st, providing the fisherman/bird hunter the best of both worlds. Better yet, the salmon are back in the river for the fall run.

December thru April/May:
For the hardy fisherman there is ice fishing on several of the lakes which begins with Ice-In from late December continuing through March. The Connecticut River opens fishing on January 1st. The fly fisherman and spin fisherman will find exciting river fishing on those mild winter days.
