Northern New Hampshire fishing report….

“Ice out” on Back Lake was on Friday the 13th. It was the second earliest ice out we’ve seen in our thirty years at the lodge. The ice went out on Lake Francis the 15th.

OMR fished Lake Francis Inlet yesterday afternoon and had lots of fun catching a total of 7 fish which comprised of salmon, rainbows and one 18 inch brown. They were caught on a Copper John and  a Red Gray Ghost. The water temperature has come up to 47 degrees.  We went back to the inlet late afternoon and Jon picked up one more rainbow and I got the big goose egg.  There were a couple of spin fishermen that picked up a few fish on bait. The inlets of Lake Francis should be fishing well this weekend.

First Lake Inlet should be heating up as well. We heard of a few small landlocks being caught last week.

The stocking truck has been in town, and yesterday there was a school of brookies that liked the confines of our dock area. I guess it reminded them of Home Sweet Home.

Happy Father’s Day everyone!

We have many grandfather, father and son teams at the lodge this weekend. It’s great to see the fishing tradition being passed down through the generations just like it was in our family. Thanks Dad!

Beautiful Day on the Trophy….

It had been awhile since my last time on the water, and with the sunshine I just had to wet a line. I’m glad I did. Not only was it a beautiful day but the trout and salmon were very cooperative too. Lots of rainbows, several small salmon but a few in the 15″+ range. My best fish was a gorgeous brook trout about 2+lbs.

Being by myself I tried to take a picture but that just didn’t work. After I released her I took this shot as she rested. I think it’s a pretty cool shot. Interesting how the water distorts things but the brook trout features are still visible. There were several different mayflies coming off and tons of Caddis around but I picked up everything on a non-weighted Pheasant Tail, Para Adams and Snowshoe BWO.

OMR just returned from the Andro, and had another good day nymphing. Tomorrow he’ll be on the Connecticut, and me, I think I’ll going fishing again.

Tom’s first Brown of the season…

Today was perfect for fishing the Connecticut below Murphy. Overcast, a little snow in the air and a Soft Hackle Streamer.

Tom landed this beautiful brown and luckily Chuck showed up to snap a picture. Way to go Tom!!
