Whatever you want to call it, the Blue Winged Olive (slang for Baetis) is the bread and butter for our trout and salmon. Not only do they hatch at times prolifically, and are the first mayfly hatch out of the gate, but they seem to prefer those cloudy, rainy days to do their business. In other words, perfect days for fishing.

Upper Connecticut River Fishing Report: 5/11

The Pittsburg Anglers Association did their second annual stocking of the Connecticut River’s “Trophy Stretch” yesterday, and they added some hefty rainbows and browns to the mix. Fishing reports from the Trophy were good today, and it seems as though the newcomers have adapted pretty well to their new surroundings.

Back Lake Fishing Update: 5/8

 

Seems like the trout finally woke up on Back Lake this weekend, as some of our guests did very well on the resident brook trout by dragging a Winnipesaukee  Smelt (pictured above) on floating fly line around the lake.  We think that other streamers would work well too – the Golden Demon, Gray Ghost, Black Ghost and Mickey Finn are solid choices every spring on Back Lake.

He managed to land and release a couple of nice trout with the help of his son Griffin and a well presented Gray Soft Hackle Streamer, when there was still good water flows below the dams.
