There are a couple of signs of Spring that I relate to the beginning of the fishing season in Pittsburg, NH. One, when the leaves have sprouted on the trees and two, when the Trout Lily is in bloom.
Jon and Tom have been fishing the Upper Connecticut River below Murphy Dam this week. Jon got this beautiful 18″ brown on one of my favorite flies, the red Goomie Worm.
Angus Boezeman, NH Fly Fishing Guide extraordinaire, has been very busy this winter doing seminars and fly tying classes all over New England. This month he will be doing another fly tying class demonstrating a few of his “Go To” flies that are killer patterns. That’s right folks, he is opening the vault.
Our friend Tim Flagler of Tightline Productions has created numerous top quality fly tying videos of fly patterns that we frequently use here in Pittsburg, Maine and in Montana.
This photo on the left is of Jon Howe aka OMR with a huge brown trout he caught on April 5th, 2010. Pittsburg was experiencing very mild weather that Spring which made it possible to fish the Upper Connecticut River. I took a couple of sloppy photos (sorry Jon), and then we quickly released this beautiful hen brown. It was a moment that we will always remember and we felt great watching her swim away.
