Fly Fishing NH's Connecticut Lakes Region

Time to take a Fly Fishing Journey

Rob Giannino of Fly Fishing Journeys visited us last autumn for his first time fishing the Connecticut Lakes Region. Guided by Chuck Degray of North Country Fly Shop, Rob had a great time, catching and releasing some beautiful trout and salmon, as well as discovering the sights that make our area a well-known fishing destination.

Looking for some Guidance?

I’ve had the good fortune to know, be friends with, and also to fish with many knowledgeable guides in New Hampshire.  I’ve also been guided by quite a few fishing guides in the northeast, Montana, and other places, and I have been lucky with the results to this point in my angling life. They’ve been great, every one of them, and many of my most memorable fishing days have been spent under the watchful eye of a guide.

Ellis Hatch

New Hampshire, and the entire fly fishing world for that matter, lost a great one this week as Ellis Hatch, legendary fly tier, angler, and conservationist passed away. We got to know Ellis as a long time guest here at Tall Timber, and he was a kind, thoughtful gentleman, and we were fortunate to secure his fly tying services for our fly shop for many years.

Forget Something?

You’re on that long-anticipated fishing trip, you know, the one you’ve been looking forward to all year. You’re on the water and … it’s slow. You hear the stories from other anglers that seem to be doing pretty well, but you don’t quite have the right fly or set up for the situation at hand. Time is a wastin’ and how can you save this trip from going down as a forgettable one?

Home Water

Surely I’m not the only fisherman that visits other rivers, sometimes not so close to where I live, in order to test my skills and catch fish on another river I’m mostly unfamiliar with. Exploration of new water and the possibility of success on it can be a tremendous pull for a fisherman, and I’ve certainly fallen victim to the desire to conquer new rivers, all in the pursuit of fishing glory.
