Pittsburg NH Fishing Report 5/23/12

The great fishing continues here in Pittsburg. Back Lake is fishing very well. The  fly of choice as been the Golden Demon. We have Hendricksons coming off on the lake, and rising fish in the AM and PM. That reminds me, the Hex Hatch is only 3+ weeks away. Are you ready for it? I am.

The Trophy Stretch was disappointing last weekend (and again this morning for Jon) but with the holiday weekend approaching, I’m guessing ??? the stocking truck will change that? Lake Francis Inlet has been producing very well. OMR guided a half day yesterday at Lake Francis Inlet, and with the overcast sky and the BWO’s coming off,  they had a banner morning. Perfect fishing conditions! His client landed 9 salmon, two being 17” using a Soft Hackle PT, Hatching Pupa and the Jailbird. This morning he had a repeat of yesterday.

I’m still hearing good things about the First Lake Inlet (Magalloway). Dave Poole and his son Tim slayed ’em very early this morning.

Some of our guests that fished the big lakes this past weekend caught a ton of nice salmon and trout, releasing many and they did bring a few home for the family.        The D-B Smelt was their lure of choice. The salmon have been gorging on smelt by the way. The fly guys were using white streamers – smelt patterns.

The Connecticut River from Murphy Dam down has been great. The water flow out of Murphy is 500+CFS. That’s a good amount of water and the big fish are there. Try a full sink fly line and a big streamer and hang on. There are some big boys and girls lurking down there.

I’ve been hearing lots of good things about the outer ponds too, with lots of rising fish. You might want to try Coon Brook Bog, East Inlet, Terrell Dam and Round Pond. We have boats on them all.

The weather forecast is looking great for the holiday weekend, and we have openings for the weekend so give us a call and we’ll hook you up. The Rainbow Grille is participating in NH Restaurant Week which continues to this Friday. Come on in and have a great meal and a few adult beverages of course. What better way to spend Memorial Weekend.
