Fly Fishing NH's Connecticut Lakes Region

Day: May 17, 2010

Beautiful day in Pittsburg….

And the fishing on Bake Lake continues to be great. Lots of good reports today from the spin fishermen as well as the fly fishermen. Trolling is the name of the game right now and it’s the old standby lures, the Super Duper and the Phoebe that continue to produce some beautiful trout.

Dave Tomaszewski landed this 3 1/2 pounder today on a Phoebe.  Nice fish! The Verganos, a father and son team, did well trolling a Mickey Finn and a Conehead Black Bugger on sinking lines. They caught and released 6+ brookies and rainbows.

Things have been a little slow for some of the stream fishermen but with the warmer temperatures this week the water temps should come up a bit and it will get better. Today 1st Lake Inlet water temp was 49 degrees and Lake Francis Inlet 46 degrees. The fish are in the Inlets. When the conditions are right, it’s good. Wednesday is going to be overcast. I’m going fishing on Wednesday!!

If you’ve checked out the stocking report, there are a few ponds that should be investigated. Clarksville and  Little Diamond might be worth a try and I’ve heard good things about Sheehan Pond.

It’s a beautiful evening here on Back Lake.  We still have openings this weekend. Give us a call.
