Fly Fishing NH's Connecticut Lakes Region

Jon’s Big, Bigger, Biggest Brown….Ever!!!

We decided the weather looked good, overcast, dreary. Perfect for fishing. We never expected what happened next. First we spot a moose just strolling along the river. Pretty cool.

Next I hook into a beautiful 20 inch brown, again on the Gummy San Juan Worm. Of course no net and Jon is nowhere in sight. I tried to take a picture, but…. it’s a long story.  Finally Jon shows up, swinging a streamer and Bam, he hooks this monster brown. He still has a smile on his face!!

Easter Sunday Salmon…

What a great weekend! The weather has been outstanding. We had to take advantage of this unusual weather so we fished the Connecticut both Saturday and today. Nothing yesterday, but today both Jon and I hooked up. I hooked a nice brown below Murphy Dam on a Gummy San Juan Worm and then Jon landed a nice salmon in the next pool down on a Floating Smelt.

Lake Ice Update: The ice is changing fast on the lakes. Lake Francis has quite a bit of open water along the edges and there’s a big crack going across it. We did try to fish Lake Francis Inlet yesterday but the water is discolored from Perry Stream runoff. Back lake is about the same and the ice is looking very dark. The earliest “Ice Out” we have on record  is April 18th, 1998. I think this year might beat that.
