Are we really “After The Flood” up here in northern New Hampshire? Good question, as there is still quite a bit of snow still to melt in the higher elevations, but lots of our snow in the valleys has melted away.

The picture above was taken this morning at Bacon Bridge in Pittsburg village, and you can see that while the water is not tremendously high, it is still pretty dirty. It will probably take a couple of days before things clear up.

We’ve had some wild weather this week – from 70 degrees and sunny on Monday to heavy rain and snow Tuesday night and Wednesday morning, to finally 1.8 degrees above zero this morning. Looks like we’re headed towards some seasonal weather in the upper 40s and low 50s through this weekend.

The fishing? Well it’s hit and miss at this time of year, and while it doesn’t seem like there’s many fish out there, there is the potential to hook in to a trophy brown or rainbow in the spring.

Fishing below the dams, and above any major tributaries is pretty much “a must” at this time of year, because of the rising (and dirty) water contributed by Perry Stream and Indian Stream. While nymphs and streamers are still preferred in the spring time, we’ve been consistently seeing good midge hatches lately, so maybe you can attract a surface sipper as well.

Things should just keep getting better now, and we can’t wait for the fishing to pick up in earnest …
