Here Comes The Sun

When you live and recreate in northern New England, you look forward to the sun coming out. It seems like there’s some months when it rarely, if ever, makes an appearance, so when it’s out you tend to take advantage of those occasions. If you’re an angler though, the sun can be a hindrance to your fishing pursuits. It usually results in wary fish, afraid to be discovered by predators, both aerial and on two legs.

Spring Has Sprung

A New Season

We’re at the start of the trout fishing season yet again in New Hampshire, but that’s not altogether right. Sun’s Out …

Smoking hot out there the last couple of days. Sweltering for someone like me that prefers the cool of spring and fall to the heat of summer, but summer is what it has felt like up here lately. We had 4″ of snow fall just a few weeks ago, so this has been quite amazing. While an excessive amount of vitamin D has been great, especially after winter, the high sun has affected the fishing a bit, as most of the fish are staying low in the water column.

Upper Connecticut River Fishing Report: 5/17

The fishing season is definitely underway here in northern New Hampshire, though it seems to have gotten off to a slower start than we like. Still, there are signs of piscatorial life, and that is good news for all of us anglers. Long time TTL guest Marc Pipas caught and released this beautiful brown trout, under the expert guidance of Jon Howe.

“Springing” In To Action?

In a couple of words … not quite. As is typical of the spring fishing in northern New Hampshire, we’re having a bit of a slow start to our spring season. There might be a few contributing factors to what’s been happening (or not happening) however.
