Upper Connecticut River Fishing Report: 5/17

The fishing season is definitely underway here in northern New Hampshire, though it seems to have gotten off to a slower start than we like. Still, there are signs of piscatorial life, and that is good news for all of us anglers. Long time TTL guest Marc Pipas caught and released this beautiful brown trout, under the expert guidance of Jon Howe.

Not Quite Yet

Everyone is anxious to find out if our favorite mayfly hatch of the season, the Hexagenia Limbata, has indeed begun at Back Lake. My answer is not yet … but it’s not too far off and perhaps we can expect to see the emergence start over the course of the next week or so.

Upper Connecticut Fishing Report: 6/13

The fishing’s been steadily good over the last week or so on sections of the upper Connecticut River. The “Trophy Stretch”, between First Connecticut Lake Dam and the inlet of Lake Francis, has been the best fishing lately.

Fall fishing is here folks, and all of the good things that go with it: cooler, crisper days, dropping water temperatures, a noticeable lack of biting insects, and even some actively feeding fish. For a lot of us anglers, it’s the best time of year to be out there on the water.

Back Lake Hex Hatch Update: 7/3

It was finally a beautiful evening on Back Lake last night. The wind was nearly non-existent, there was no threat of rain or thunderstorms (which we’ve seemingly had every evening so far), and the hexagenia limbata were coming off in abundance.

A funny thing thing happened on the way to catching fish however …

Back Lake Hex Hatch Update: 6/28

There was a smattering of hexagenia limbata (HEX!) coming off of Back Lake last night. That was the scuttlebutt from a few of our guests, and it was confirmed for me this morning when I found one lonely specimen on the door of our boat house.
