Thinking About Fish Again …

Not that we don’t dream about our piscine friends frequently enough, but we have a couple days of warm weather starting today (the first thaw of the winter), so naturally, one’s thoughts turn to pursuing trout, salmon, and just about everything else that prowls our northern waters.

To say that fishing pressure on the upper Connecticut River this season has been “light” would be an understatement – it’s been pretty chilly so far this winter, so there haven’t been many windows for pursuing our hearty winter trout. The snow is deep (a couple of feet so far), so make sure you eat your Wheaties if you’re heading out there.

Just remember that if you’re fishing below Murphy Dam, there are new rules that were put in to effect last season. From January 1 – March 31: artificial lures only, one hook point, barbless, and all fish must be immediately released.

Just make your donation (personal checks or PayPal) and a beautiful sticker showing your dedication to enhancing fishing opportunities on the Trophy Stretch in Pittsburg will be on its way.

Last year, the P.A.A. stocked over 500 healthy and impressive brown and rainbow trout in the Trophy Stretch, which made for some exciting fishing last summer. The P.A.A. will be doing the same this spring, so your support will be much appreciated …

Finally, we’re gearing up for another great Fly Fishing Show in Marlborough, MA next weekend (January 19, 20 & 21). We hope you’ll be able to stop by our booth to exchange some fish stories and “shoot the bull”, or maybe even book a trip for this season with one of our guides. We have a great time at the Show, seeing old friends and making new ones, so we hope to see you next weekend …
