Fly Fishing NH's Connecticut Lakes Region

The season is upon us …

The fishing season here on the upper Connecticut River has begun, and there have been some nice trout caught and released so far in 2017. This beautiful brown was caught and released by NH fishing guide Mickey Cunliffe on opening day.

If you’re anxious to get out there this winter, first you have to pick the right day to brave the elements before you dip your toes in the water, and then, you’ll want to remember the rules on the section from Murphy Dam in Pittsburg, N.H. to the Route 114 bridge in West Stewartstown, N.H.

From January 1 to March 31, it is artificial lures or flies only with a single barbless hook, and most importantly, it is catch & release.

Make sure you handle them gently so that the joy of hooking them again later in the season is a possibility.

Tight lines this year everybody!
